2.1 Teaching Methods

Teaching method that used by the teacher in Miagao National High School is “Teacher Center” deals with the curriculum K to 12, but even though it’s a teacher center but I find out that the way the teacher teaches the students is really encourage the students to understand, to think and to engaged  the students into the topic. The teacher always begin the class with some questions from the textbook to engage the students into the material and  let the students think and also give opinions about the material. My cooperative teacher is very detail person she explain clearly and perfectly everything to the students so that the students will be really understand the material. To make the learners more interest to the material, they use LCD to show the power point and speaker. The teacher sometimes make some jokes using their mother tongue language if the students feels bored.

In my observation day, I notice that the class for ninth grade has been divided into five classes, they are Diamond, Amethyst, Sapphire, Garnet and Jade. For the star class such as Diamond class, the teacher will use 98% English in teaching while for the lower class such as Garnet and Jade the teacher will use only 60% English. I also notice that the teacher like to create calm and quite atmosphere in the class to make the students more focus and understand the material. The best point is the teacher always give chance to the students to give and share their opinion in the classroom and the teacher always trying her best to make the students understand the material and give clear instruction to the students.

2.2 Learning Materials and Innovation

Learning materials in K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum for Four Quarter “ English “ subject grade 9. The first lesson with the title “Holding On To A Dream In A Changing World” with the objectives are to determine the relevant and the truthfulness of the ideas presented in the picture, relate text content to particular social issues, concerns and dispositions in real life, analyze literature as a means of  unchanging values in changing world, be familiar with the technical terms related to drama and theater, be able to use the active voice and passive voice of the verb correctly. The second lesson with the title “Ensuring Family Security” and the objectives of the lesson are express obligation in statements in oral and written forms, students be able to understand the importance of the family , students will realize that family is everything in their way and etc.

For innovation in teaching and learning process, I find out that the teacher using expository (teacher center) and the teacher explain the material very clear and perfect, but sometimes because of atmosphere is so quite, the students feel easy to get bored and no longer focus on the teacher explanation. So, to overcome those problem I manage to do some innovation by implementing cooperative teaching method in my class, I make the students more enjoy, fun and relax in my class, I used more than one cooperative teaching method and I combine it , such as talking stick method, brainstorming, snowball throwing method, STAD (Students Team Achievement Division ) method and etc. Those methods are really useful to catch the students attention and active in the class.

2.3 Sources of Learning and Technology

The source of learning in teaching is using guidance book provide by the school from the Department of Education Republic of the Philippines “A Journey Through Anglo – American Literature Learners’ Material”  and source from the internet. The technology that was used in teaching were video, picture, slide Power Point, laptop, LCD Display and speaker.

2.4 Authentic Assessment

Authentic assessment that used by the teacher all is based on the guidance book and the syllabus from “Department of Education” . The instrument of the assessment is “Class Record “ which consist of students written works, students performance task, students quarterly assessment and so on.
