History :
Way back in 1997,
when the supervision and control over the Southern Iloilo Polytechnic College
was transferred from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports to the
Commission on Higher Education, numerous problems cropped up especially the
imposition that the SIPC High School Department must only admit 150 students
per year level.
As a temporary stop-gap measure, the
Palaca-Damilisan National High School – SIPC Extension was established on that
same year through the initiative of Mr. Eduardo P. Moreno, PDNHS Principal, and
the full support of the Municipal Government through Mayor Julieta N. Flores.
The hiring of several teachers was prioritized by the Municipal School Board to
augment the teaching staff and a sizable portion of the Local School Board Fund
was allocated for the salaries and other benefits of the teachers. Through the
untiring requests and representations of Mayor Flores, the Iloilo Provincial
Government, through Governor Arthur D. Defensor, provided financial assistance
for the hiring of additional teachers, procurement of school facilities and the
construction of a school building.
A more permanent solution to the problem was
also formulated in 1997. On that same year, the creation and establishment of
the Miagao National High School was sought by the Local Administration. The
Municipal Government adopted a two-pronged approach: one was through the
administrative or executive method wherein representations with DECS and other
agencies were made by Mayor Julieta Flores and the Sangguniang Bayan and the
other method was through legislative representations. Whichever method causes
the creation and establishment of the MNHS shall mean victory for Miagao.
On August 22, 2000 Republic Act No. 8879 entitled “An Act Establishing a
National High School in the Municipality of Miagao, Province of Iloilo to be
Named as the Miagao National High School” was enacted by the 11th Congress of
the Philippines. It was learned that the expeditious establishment of the MNHS
was made possible through the full assistance and support of then Senate
President Franklin M. Drilon who is an avid benefactor of Miagao, Senator
Teresa Aquino-Oreta who is the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on
Education, Arts and Culture and Representative Ninfa S. Garin of the First
Congressional District of Iloilo who introduced House Bill No. 4575 that was
necessary in the establishment of the MNHS.

In the school they have a big blackboard and some classes use whiteboard also. Some of the class also provided with the television, but if there is no television in the class the teacher may use LCD and speaker in teaching their students. There are 34 number of classes in the school. Every class have at least 3 to 4 fan and the classroom is big enough to placed 45 to 47 students . The classroom also were decorate beautifully and meaningfully by the the teacher and the students because in every class we can find their own information board deals with the subject teach by the teacher. The School also provide the students with students’ guidance book but the students are not allowed to bring the book back to their home. In the first floor of the school building we can find “Cadampig Teen Center” during the vacant time the students can use the room or the teen center to do something that they like such as reading, drawing, hanging with friends and etc. The other things that really interesting about the school academic support system is we can find that the school is very “Go Green” because we can find the flower garden along the way from the office room until the students classroom, they do recycle and turn it into beautiful garden and of course it’s a very good character education for the students also.

Teaching and learning process |
The school
provide guidance book for the teaching and learning process. Every subject have
2 books. The first book for the teacher and the second book for the students
but the students are not allowed to bring the book with them after the class.
The other learning sources is the material from the internet such as e- book,
journals, picture or video that the teacher can use in teaching and learning
process in order to make the students more interest to the topic and easy to
understand the material. We also wish to use the other application in teaching
such as Quipper, Kahoot and etc but deals with the internet connection problem
in the school which is limited so that it’s still impossible to implement those
applications in teaching and learning process.

For measurement
and evaluation, the school and the teacher still using question sheet paper
even though they do hope that they can use application such as Quipper to make
the measurement and evaluation more easier and effective but since there is
still limited internet connection in the school so it’s take time to implement
that way in the school.
1.6 Curriculum
The Curriculum
that used by the Miagao National High School is K to 12 Basic Educational
Curriculum. The curriculum aims to help learners acquire highly developed
literacy skills that enable them to understand that English language is the
most widely used medium of communication in Trade, and the Arts, Science,
Mathematics and in world economy. Furthermore, the curriculum aims to help
learners understand that English language is a dynamic social process which
responds to and reflect changing social conditions and that English is
inextricably involved with values, beliefs and ways of thinking about ourselves
and the world we dwell in. Through multi-literacy skills, learners will be able
to appreciate and be sensitive to social cultural diversity and understand that
the meaning of any form of communication depends on context, purpose and
audience.

1.7 Teaching Plan
In Miagao
National High School I teach English subject and I find out that they use two
version of lesson plan or teaching plan, the first one is “Detail Lesson Plan”
and the second one is “DLL (Daily Lesson Log)”. During my practice teaching, my
cooperative teacher suggest me to use detail lesson plan so that I learn how to
make detail lesson plan with format that they usually use because honestly
their lesson plan is very different with the lesson plan or teaching plan that
we use in Indonesia. In Indonesia we have more complicated and complex lesson
plan compare with Philippines.
